The focus of this website is changing to equipping people to be better analysts using a variety of tools rather than exclusively Excel. It will also provide more information about my services to small and medium enterprises.

Other Tools and Methods for Analysts

The world of analytics has been changing rapidly in recent years with lots of old methods becoming more mainstream due to better computing resources and many new methods adding to this collection. In addition to this, the range of tools (i.e. software products) being used is dramatically increasing in business.

So I am going to expand the focus of this website to show you how you can learn about some of these new tools and methods for yourself. It is a do-it-yourself approach to learning things. This is not great for convincing recruitment agencies and future employers that you have the skills! Nevertheless, you will become more aware of tools and techniques that are available to you. The more you are aware, then the more opportunities and solutions you will see.

Services for Small Businesses

I am also expanding my analytical services to small to medium enterprises (SMEs). While most small businesses are less interested in fancy tools and expensive software solutions, doing the basics right and smarter, and better understanding our customers are important. If you are a business owner, here are some things that might be helpful:

  • Helping to use Excel more effectively, through training, setting up calculation or form templates, and reducing the time taken to create reports. These are all designed to save your business time by doing things more efficiently.
  • Helping to provide practical insights about your business from your data.
  • Setting up databases and mail merges so that you can more efficiently communicate with potential or actual customers.
  • More advanced analytics like creating a tool to do scheduling, or identifying your different types of customers so that you can be more targetted in how you communicate with them.

I must confess, that I am a slow adopter of new tools. I don’t like to rush in to get the latest new tool but I like to take a more measured approach and weigh it up with my current processes and future direction. Similarly with others, my focus is on understanding the business and their needs first, without worrying about tools.
